How far is Calistoga from Napa? Can I do a day trip there? I know they are known for Mud Baths, can anyone recommend a great 1 day itinerary in Calistoga, including a great place for a mud bath?

Napa and Calistoga are on opposite ends of the Valley. Yes, you can get there in a day, maybe less than a day depending on the traffic! Seriously, it's about 27 miles.

I've never been to the spas, so can't comment.

Calistoga is quite doable drive from Napa....Just go up I29 to north end of Napa Valley (distance 27 miles).

I'd mosey up I29 stopping at a winery here and there...

the list of Calistoga wineries is;

Perhaps see one of the other attractions listed at the end of this:

Then head over to to Golden Havens Hot Springs

You'll be very relaxed after....so if hungry suggest wondering over to Brannan's Grill and enjoy lunch or dinner.

For both the spa and the restaurant, make reservations in advance as both are popular. (Brannan's especially for dinner.)

Other attractions close by which you might want to do prior to the mud bath is:

Safari West: http://www.safariwest.com/

and

Petrified Forest: http://www.petrifiedforest.org/

They also have a geyser there but I've never thought much of it...maybe some one else enjoys it but here's the link if interested (but there's tons better things to do.)
