Mt. Shasta & vicinity in May end

We are planning to go to Mt. Shasta, Lassen Volcanic NP & Crater Lake for May end. Could anyone recommend what to see around Mt. Shasta in a day about nice hikes (not too stressful), scenic vistas etc. Thanks

One easy beautiful hike near Mt Shasta is in McCloud along a river with three wide waterfalls falling 30' or so (from my memory). I also love Castle Crags hike. It gets very hot, so May would be wonderful for this hike. It's actually quite a climb. Our son did it when he was 6 though. There are great views on top. It can be nerve racking for those with veritigo. On the way to Lassen stop at Burney Falls. This is a very short, but fairly steep hike.

As Lucysmom pointed out in another post, Castle Crags SP is closed and may not reopen in time for Memorial Day. Some non-profit groups are trying to get the state to allow them to run it.

However, according to some reports, you can still park outside the gate and walk in to the trailhead.

Castle Crags is closed?? Guess I missed that. Well Burney Falls a good visit.

Trying to remember the 3 waterfalls near McCloud. I know i have been there or to similar place, are they south of McCloud?

You can do that at any closed park. There won't be any facilities though.

The CC campgrounds are closed (which I think is what the party was looking for), but I don't know why you couldn't hike.

The Pacific Crest Trail crosses the Castle Crags trail too. Sad about another SP closing though.

Yes, I think the trail is just south of McCloud. It's along th McCloud River.

Another pretty, easy hike is at Castle Lake. Drive past Lake Siskiyou up Castle Lake Road. mountshastatrailassociation.org/trails/…
