whale watching in September

heard that this is a "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity to see a great number of whales in the area, due to an abundance of krill off the coast...am planning to be in Monterey around the time of the Jazz Festival in mid-September....do you think the whales would still be around in good numbers then....or will it likely be too late? thanks!

Actually, its the giant blue whales that are here now, in much larger numbers than normal. They'll stay as long as the food supply lasts, but nobody can say how long that will be. This abundance of krill is an uncommon occurrence so it's hard to say how long it will last. My guess, though, is that it will be a fairly short-lived phenomenon.
