family trip on for 3 days/2 nights

My family will be staying for 2 nights at the Hyatt in Monterey on July 1-2. We have 2 teenagers, ages 14 and 15. We will be driving from Yosemite to see the area.

Was thinking we would see Pt Lobos and drive the 17 mile drive. Are there any other ideas that the kids might enjoy/think is cool. Our flight home leaves Sn Fran at 1:15pm on July 3rd. Haw long does it take to drive to that airport. What time should we leave

Thanks for all the help

This site is great!!

Hi. First, the drive to the airport: figure out what time you want to be inside the terminal and work backwards. It will take you just under two hours from Monterey to SFO if you take Hwy 1 N to 156 East to 101 N. Assuming that you want to drop off your rental car at, say, 11:30, you can leave here at 9:15 to give yourself a little cushion. There shouldn't be any traffic problems that time of day.

I think you will all enjoy Point Lobos. Have you considered a day trip to Big Sur? It takes about an hour and you'll see some spectacular scenery. Check out www.bigsur.org.

Does the Monterey Bay Aquarium interest you? If so, you should get your tickets in advance, either online or through your hotel's concierge. Another possibility is kayaking on the bay. If you have some experience, you can rent a kayak; if not, then you can go out with a guide.

Just remember that July can be very foggy and cool, so be sure to bring layers. Have agreat trip.

I would definitely try to squeeze in the Aquarium. We have been several times, most recently in December and we are always amazed at the quality of the exhibits here. We like to have lunch at Schooner's Bistro on the Bay at the Plaza and walk from there to the aquarium.

You might also enjoy Fisherman's Wharf. Have a meal at either Cafe Fina or Domenico's. Have a great trip! :)
