The Belamar in Manhattan Beach

Anyone out there have anything to say about the Belamar in Manhattan Beach? I got a good deal with them to stay mid-July for a mother/daughter getaway. Looks and sounds nice; telephone reservation proved a better deal than the website.

Any recommendations on dining places near there? Any suggestions for mother/daughter activities--flea markets? shopping? events?

Since you got a good price, the Belamar should be a nice place for the two of you. Ask for a quiet room that is NOT facing Sepulveda. I'd recommend you drive down to the pier area and browse the boutique shops and restaurants. There are plenty to choose from and would not steer you away from any of them. As for events, check out the local calendar online:

Or pick up a Beach Reporter or Easy Reader when you arrive for a list of the latest happeings in the South Bay.

Rent bikes & beach gear at: Funbunns, 1116 Manhattan Ave, a block up from the pier.

The hotel is L shapped, near the corner of Sepulveda Blvd. and Rosecrans Ave, two very busy traffic intersections. Most rooms face the street and you can hear the traffic, but there are some rooms which face Oak Ave. in the back. If you got a good deal, it would be worth staying a couple days, because you will keep busy in the summer. I've attended several events there, the food is good in the restaurant.

Lots of dining places. Across the street from you is the Manhattan Village Mall where you will find a CA Pizza Kitchen, China Grill, Corner Bakery, Islands Fine Burgers, Joey's BBQ, LA Food Show to name a few. Nice little mall of shops and theaters.

In the downtown area they have a Farmer's Market every Tuesday.

The previous posters provided good advice. You didn't say how old your daugher is; that will elicit responses from My Gym to Baja Sharkeez (though I doubt that you will want to take your daughter to Sharkeez!!!)

The Manhattan Beach Strand is fun to walk, jog, bike or rollerblade. If you need to rent, information was already supplied.

Will you have a car? If so, that opens up your options.

In case you didn't know what BeachChair meant by "Easy Reader" or "Beach Reporter", these are free local newspapers. These are widely found at South Bay businesses (such as restaurants, hotels, retailers, etc.). You can also find newspapers stands in front of the local area postoffices.

Abazaba,

They have come and gone, and posted a nice report on the Belamar Hotel, on TA last month.
