transportation to Amusement Parks in Los Angeles

Hiya, whilst holidaying LA, we are keen to check out all the Thrill seeker Amusement Parks, and Water Parks. We will be situated in Santa Monica. Are there Shuttles or buses that can take us to the top 3 Parks, Magic Mountain, Raging Waters, Knotts Berry Farm??

Suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks!!

Not really.

You are better off renting a car and driving yourself.

Nope. Not from Santa Monica.

Taxis will be very expensive. $140 to Raging Waters. $120 to Knotts Berry Farm. $120 to Six Flaggs. These estimates assume no traffic and are one-way.

Definitely rent a car.

You COULD take a 'tour' to each of these or use public transit (ugh). Here are the options:

Tours (these are examples; there are others):

1. For Magic Mountain: starlinetours.com/santa-monica-tour-STM.asp

This is for just the transfer. You buy admission to the Park separately. At $50 per person, that's $100 return for the 2 of you. Clearly, hiring a car and paying for petrol and parking at Magic Mountain is less expensive than the tour (although you might have to pay for overnight parking at your hotel -- which could be $30 or so).

2. Knotts: starlinetours.com/santa-monica-tour-STK.asp

3. Raging Waters: I do not know of a 'tour' to there.

Via public transit:

1. For Magic Mountain (schedules vary between weekends and weekdays so check the schedules but here is one routing):

Starting at SANTA MONICA...

Ride Santa Monica Bus #1 [marked 'UCLA -SANTA MONICA BLVD'] heading north

From: OCEAN AV/COLORADO AV SE corner Lv: 07:30AM

To: WESTWOOD BLVD/WEYBURN AV SE corner Ar: 08:03AM

Pay $1.00.

Transfer to Santa Clarita Bus #792 [marked 'VALENCIA INDUSTRIAL CENTER'] heading north From: WESTWOOD BLVD/WEYBURN AV SE corner Lv: 08:10AM

To: VALENCIA BLVD/ROCKWELL CANYON RD SW corner Ar: 08:44AM

Pay $4.25,

Tranafer to Santa Clarita Bus #3 [MAGIC MOUNTAIN] heading west

From: VALENCIA BLVD/ROCKWELL CANYON RD NW corner Lv: 09:16AM

To: MAGIC MOUNTAIN PKWY/MAGIC MOUNTAIN Ar: 09:24AM

Pay $1.00

Ending at MAGIC MOUNTAIN (a transfer of about 2 hours, each way).

2. Knotts:

Starting at SANTA MONICA

Ride Santa Monica Bus Rapid R10 [RAPID 10/FRWY EXPRESS/LA UNION STA] heading south From: 2ND ST/BROADWAY SW corner Lv: 06:11AM

To: FIGUEROA ST/5TH ST SE corner Ar: 06:56AM

Pay $2.00 + $0.50 for Transfer

Transfer to Metro Express Line 460 [marked 'DISNEYLAND'] heading south

From: FLOWER ST/5TH ST SW corner Lv: 07:10AM

To: LA PALMA AV/BEACH BLVD SE corner Ar: 08:42AM

Use Transfer or Media + $1.40

Ending at KNOTTS

(Note: that's a transfer of 2-1/2 hours each way. HIring a car will be twice as fast).

For Raging Waters: That's a transfer of 2-1/2 hours each way, via three buses in succession. The last bus will drop you about a mile from the Park which is at the top of a steep hill. The fare is $4.80 per person, each way (=$19.20 return for 2 of you). It's not that much more expensive to hire a car -- and ALOT quicker.
