Hotel Help

We will be in LA June 27- July 1, 2014. We want to go Universal studios, Hollywood, Beverly hills, Venice beach, etc. All the hotels in west Hollywood or Santa Monica are in the $200-300 per night range. Our budget is $100-130 per night. What safe areas should we look at staying that's not too far from those attractions. I'm not familiar with the area and don't know if staying by LAX is better. Please help.

See if there's availablity at the Wilshire Motel in West LA - but you need a car. You will need a car for all that you want to see, Santa Monica/Venice is about 45 minutes from Universal/Hollywood.

Otherwise, your budget is way too low for any hotel, and tax is on top of the rate 15%. LAX hotels are cheap, but never a good option.

Hollywood, Universal and Beverly Hills are all close to one another (5 minute metro rail ride between Hollywood & Universal; 35 minute bus transfer -- 2 buses, in succession, between Hollywood & Beverly Hills). Santa Monica is an additional 35 minutes beyond Beverly Hills. Here's a map that might be helpful, showing the major neighborhoods:

The northern part of "Central L.A." would be the most convenient for your particular itinerary if you plan to use public transit. Hotels there, include several of the ones listed above:

Here are the reviews for the hotels and the current room rates for your particular dates (add 15.3% 'room tax' to these figures and, if you're renting a car, check with the hotel to see if there is a fee for overnight parking):

($125 per night)

($110 per night)

If it were me, I'd stay at the Park Plaza Lodge.
