Santa Monica to Warner Brothers traffic

Next week Tuesday, we have a tour booked for 8:15am. How long to expect with morning traffic from Santa Monica area to Warner Brothers?

WB recommends being AT the Tour Center 20 minutes before your tour starts. You'll need to give yourself 5 minutes to enter the parking area (which is across the street from the REAR entrance to the Tour Center) and then make your way to the Tour Center's entrance, line up to be scanned 'airport style' and then enter the building. I doubt there would be a huge line at that hour but, to be safe, let's assume that you need to be at the entrance to the parking area (still in your car) by 7:45.

I would give yourself 1 hour for the drive. Here's the route (starting point is the Santa Monica Pier.

Feel free to change it as needed.

That would mean leaving SM at 6:45. If you make it to the Tour Center earlier than expected, there's a gift shop there as well as a Starbucks, as well as restrooms.

Here's a closeup of the Tour Center (where the tour begins). Note: it is NOT inside of the Studio grounds and it's about .75 miles from the main gate of WB. So, if you're using a mapping site to head to "Warner Bros". Be aware that the tour doesn't start at "Warner Bros"; it starts at the office building at 3400 Riverside Drive in Burbank. Here's a peek: http://mapq.st/1lTdWbN

Note: while the front of the building faces Riverside Drive, the entrance to the Tour Center is at the rear of the building which faces Warner Bl. Here's a revised map showing the street address on Warner Blvd. http://mapq.st/R6fFy7 On this map, the Tour Center is just above the purple circle with the white dot inside of it. The Parking lot is to the south of the purple circle. The entrance to the parking lot is on the east side of the lot, on Lima Street.

Leave at 6:30 and plan to have a breakfast snack at the café when you arrive, this will allow for any unforeseen delay.

I live near the studio and take the 101 west every morning and I the traffic heading east (the way you will be going) is often very bad. Note that once you are on the 101, you can exit and take Riverside Drive all the way to the studio (the parking and entrance is right off Riverside Drive). Riverside is generally a lot less congested than the 101 at rush hour.

Also factor in how you are parked. For example, if self parked, no problem. In Santa Monica we have sometimes had to wait 1/2 hour for our car in the morning (do call ahead if you are valet parked).

We just made our tour when we had this type of delay. so if 6:30 and valet move it back at least fifteen minutes.
