Also-- consider a day at Huntington Gardens, Libarary and Gallery. This is one of the best attractions in the whole region (in my opinion), but is off the main tourism map due to its location, relatively apart from other major sightseeing spots. You, however, will be a 10-15 minute drive from it; it is just a few blocks off of Huntington in San Marino.
It takes longer to get to Venice Beach than to Santa Monica, mainly because the freeway ends in Santa Monica and the surface streets in Venice are quite narrow with plenty of lights. Additionally, major surface streets (Venice, Washington and Lincoln) leading to Venice are at capacity with traffic, causing further slowing and, once in Venice, parking is limited, taking even more time. It takes longer to get there, no question.
Homelessness is a national problem and I'm proud of Santa Monica's compassionate assistance towards those less fortunate while maintaining strict laws to protect the public from some individuals' behaviors (like panhandling).
Tone is everything. I feel that some on the forum don't really like the rest of us and the tone of those posts are coming across as haughty and patronizing. It'd be nice if we could lighten up and be nice for the new year, what do you say?
Thanks for EVERYONE'S responses!
