Hi All

My son (25) is off to LA in March for three weeks and would like to pick up a hire car from LAX airport he has never been to the States before and has only every driven in the UK - firstly can any one recommend any good hire car companies and also what type of car should he be hiring - he doesn't want a large vehicle( is used to driving a 3 series BMW at home) would prefer shift gear ( is that possible?) thank you :-)

He can look at rentalcars.com or the UK sites of hertz , Avis budget Alamo or enterprise

There are sub-compact to full size cars so any car and price should be ok. The Beemer 3 series is not a small car

Have a look at the car sites and there are photos

Automatic is the norm in the US so finding a manual transmission will be hard and I would stick to the large companies and not look for smaller companies

Yes, let him rent the car from UK already and have all insurances included. He'll get used to driving an automatic very soon and prob he don't want to get back to manual after that...

National/Alamo and Hertz usually have rates for UK citizens that include all insurances and fees.
