Anaheim to Hollywood on a Monday - traffic situation?

Hi all,

We are a family of 4, with two girls aged 10 and 7. We have the Monday off (July 1), staying at one of the hotels adjacent to Disneyland in which we will spend the Tuesday. We arrive at LAX on Sunday, where we have a rental car.

We want to see Hollywood and then go to one of the beaches, perhaps Venice.

How is the traffic from Anaheim to Hollywood on a Monday morning? Is it that terrible?

Thanks, and best regards,

Ole

Yes, it is terrible. Leave at 6:30AM and it won't be an issue.

Just head back to Anaheim before 2PM or after 7PM.

Or leave after 9:30 or so am to miss alot of the busier traffic, and as said head back in the hours mentioned and you should be ok.

Thanks for the recommendations. So it's crucial to avoid the rush hour. Will certainly do that.

Since Hollywood and Santa Monica (the beach) is closer to LAX than Anaheim, is it possible for you to spend your first night in Hollywood? This way, you'll wake up in Hollywood and will have a short midday drive to Santa Monica before the long ride to Anaheim.

Even if you can't cancel your hotel booking in Anaheim for the night of the 30th, it might be worth getting an inexpensive hotel in Hollywood for the same night.

It isn't "crucial" to miss rush hour is it nice, very nice, to miss rush hour.

If I had to be in Hollywood at say 9AM, I'd rather leave Anaheim at 6:30AM, get to Hollywood at 7:15AM and enjoy a relaxing breakfast or even just coffee and the paper than to leave at 7AM and get there at 8:30AM or later.

@HopSkipJump: I thought about that, but would prefer to stay at the same hotel for the 3 nights we are in LA. And since Disneyland was the most important attraction to see, we decided to stay there. No problem. We will just have to deal with the traffic then. We are arriving from Europe, so we will for sure be jetlagged, and may be heading to Hollywood very very early, or later than 9.30 AM.

No matter what time of day you leave you will ALWAYS hit traffic in the L.A. area. It will just be heavier during the rush hours. There is even traffic on the weekend.
