Myself and my fiance are spending 3 nights in LA at the end of June/early july this year for our honeymoon. We have never been to LA (nor the US before!)
What we are really struggling with is where to stay - and whether to pay the extra for a nice hotel, go for a budget or risk it with the 'surprise/ secret' hotels options with the likes of hotwire / priceline etc.
So our agenda (open to comments / suggestions!);
Day 1 - Arrive from Pismo beach approx 1pm - go straight to Getty museum for a couple of hours - grab some food / check in at hotel if time allows (if not can go later in the evening) - then onto griffith observetory for dusk (7pm ish?) until sun down / it closes if we love it!
Day 2 - Universal studios (could to griffith obs this night if too much on the first night!)
Day 4 - drive down highway 1 along Long beach / south beaches etc and out off to San Diego
With the agenda in mind - where would a good base be, Hollywood, hollywood hills - or maybe santa monica (stay at the beach and drive inland for the days activities?). We have also seen really good prices for hotels near LAX - is this becuase they are far out from attractions and / or the airport is noisy?
Is it worth spending the money for a $200 plus a night hotel, or as we are not spending much time in a hotel, would the cheaper $80 ish plus a night hotels be recommended?
Another thought we have had is risking it with the 'secret' hotel 'deals' you can get - but we are unsure if you really do get 4/5* hotels at '2* prices'!
thank you :)
