Traffic

I plan to be in LA on a Saturday and wondering if the traffic on the interstates in LA are any better than on weekdays. Daughter wants to go to Rodeo Dr and look around. We will be coming from San Diego.

Yes, It is usually easier to drive from San Diego to LA on a Saturday rather than during the week.

Thanks, son graduating from MCRD and daughter thought we could drive up to LA for the day. The rest of the time we will sight see in San Diego.

Be advised that LA from San Diego as a day trip will be a long day. The drive is 2 1/4 hour minimum each way. It may be worth considering spending one night in LA to break it up.

Thanks MachThree. Nothing set in concrete yet but thoughts at the moment are leave early Sat morning, spend all day in LA, come back that night to San Deigo and Sunday at SD Zoo.

Consider going to the Getty as well. It is open until 9 on Saturdays. Lots of people make the drive in a day, it will just be a long day with lots of driving.

Jennifer, I am unfamiliar with the Getty, what is that?

Jennifer is referring to the Getty Center in Brentwood - more info on it at www.getty.edu Its an art museum funded by a trust established by John Paul Getty (of Getty Oil fame) and mainly featuring the collection of art that he accumulated over his life. The museum itself, however, is known almost more for its architecture and stunning views of the city that it offers.

That's a long day trip, but the traffic should be light. If there's an accident, it could be a long drive. If it's clear, it could be just a couple of hours each way (double with traffic).

Leave SD early, stay in LA for dinner.

It's a long day but doable. We have gone from LA to SD on many day trips. If your daughter wants to walk around Rodeo Dr (and what young woman dosen't?) then by all means. You may want to also drive over to Santa Monica and walk around the pier. Have a nice dinner before returning to SD. Getty Center is great but I think it'll take away the better part of your day.

Congrats to your son and thank him for his service to the country.
