Hi, Ruwan

This is why their tickets are so inexpensive. They appear to be buying ANNUAL PASSES and 1-day tickets that have 'free admission for all of 2012 and 2013' which are designed to be used by one person and then they are 'renting you' the passes for a day at a time. This is why they collect the deposit and ask for the ticket to be returned.

The passes are non-transferable so the ticket service is violating the terms and conditions of the tickets when they 'rent' the ticket to you. These types of scams have been going on at Disneyland for years and the theme parks are starting to clamp down on them. When 'your' ticket is examined at the front gates to the Park, you might be questioned regarding its origin (where did you buy the ticket/which credit card was used, etc) and/or it might be confiscated. If that happens, you will have spent $55 for absolutely nothing and you'll then have to spend another $80 to gain admittance.

At present, Universal is offering a ticket for $80 that's good for all of 2012 and 2013. (This is probably the ticket that the 'ticket service' is 'renting' to you). Why not avoid a lot of hassle and buy the ticket from Universal directly? It will cost just $25 more than the 'rented ticket' but compared to the cost of airfare, hotels, meals, etc, it's a small price to pay. And, you can use it for as many days as you want so, for example, if you want to return to Universal a second time (during this visit or the next), you'd have free admission. Or, you could spend 2 'half days' at Universal during your visit (it might work into your itinerary better that way) and, again, you could use the ticket on each day to gain admittance.

Lastly, depending on when you visit, there are often discount coupons offered for Universal. If, for example. you're an 'auto club' member, there are usually discounts of as much as $15 per ticket available. Look at mousesavers.com for a list of discounts at all the theme parks as well as Universal. Be sure you're looking at Universal Hollywood, not Universal Florida.

Good luck!

Are you planning to do Sea World as well or has that plan to drive all the way to San Diego and back been changed ?

There are options with citypass to cover both attractions. But I still question driving all the way to San Diego for the day and back.

Please stay away from these touts that you found for cheap.

Heres the link for the buy a day get 2012/2013 free ticket for Universal Studios.

However, you should be aware with this kind of ticket, there are blackout dates where you cannot visit on those dates after your first visit. You can click where it says "Full Details" on the page to view the info.
