Crowne Plaza - Beverly Hills

Hey guys,

We are staying here for 4 nights this week, and just wanted some help on places to eat around the area.

Ideally, for eating, we would not want to go too far from the hotel, but we do have a car available so can drive to places (if there is parking). The reviews of this hotel seem to say there are lots of great restaurants surrounding the hotel, but I can't find any.

The map the hotel gave us has a place on La Cienega Blvd listed as restaurant row, are there nice places here? (We would prefer closer to the hotel, within walking distance - if we could stay on S Beverly Drive, or near Rodeo Drive).

Secondly, we were going to drive to most places we wanted to see, so Santa Monica beach, Venice Beach (is this place still worth seeing?), Hollywood Blvd, Westfield Century City, Beverly Center. Will most of these places have parking available?

Finally, we wanted to do one of these tours to see the famous houses, however as we have the car, would we be able to get a map from somewhere so we can just drive around them ourselves?

Thanks for the help

For some reason, travel agents like to place people at Crowne Plaza. You are correct, there is very little nearby.

There are two excellent restaurants fairly close, Picca and Sotto. Picca is a Peruvian restaurant, Sotto is Italian. Also, Mr. C's has a very good restaurant within.

With a car, you could go anywhere, what is it you want in a restaurant?

Yes, parking is plentiful at all the places you list. Whether or not Venice is"worth seeing" is subjective.

Tours of houses is hours in a bus looking at gates and hedges. Drive the area north of Sunset Blvd yourself, particularly in Holmby Hills (google is your friend here).

About a 1 minute drive north of your hotel on Beverly Drive (or a 15-minute walk) is Ruth's Chris Steak House.

It's got a funny name and it's consistently gotten good reviews (not cheap, though):

Re: the Stars' Home tour, this is an extremely popular Tour. Starline Tours operates it every 30 minutes, all day long, all week long. You would think that if all you saw were gates and hedges, the word would have gotten out after 60 years! Surprisingly, we get relatively little feedback about this tour from VISITORS but the locals (many of whom have never taken the tour or took it once, decades ago) are quite vocal about its lack of appeal.

Here are links to some of the favorable reviews of the tour as submitted to Trip Advisor. Unfortunately, Trip Advisor does not allow reviews for this tour alone but instead lumps together reviews of all of Starline's Tours including their 'hop on, hop off' tour and their Grand City Tour. For each of the links below, it is only the FIRST review in the list that refers to the Star's Homes Tours:

tripadvisor.com/…REVIEWS

tripadvisor.com/…REVIEWS

tripadvisor.com/…REVIEWS

tripadvisor.com/…CHECK_RATES_CONT

tripadvisor.com/…REVIEWS

tripadvisor.com/…REVIEWS

tripadvisor.com/…REVIEWS

(The above reviewers all rated the tour 4 out of 5 'tripadvisor circles' -- 'better than average' and all of these reviews have appeared on Trip Advisor within the last 30 days).

If you do decide to drive yourself, you'll need to do some serious research since the roads in the canyons and hills are quite curvy so you'll need to keep your wits about you as you plan your itinerary -- or, you could take the tour. If you do, please post a review, here on the Forum so we can get some feedback from someone who has actually gone on the tour recently.

Cheers!

Thanks for the info guys.

I was told that it was possible to get a map which had a route on to visit, but I haven't been able to find one.

Thanks for the information about places to eat, we're only here 3 more nights so we could visit each place :)

You can buy the maps along Sunset Bl just WEST of Whittier Dr.

http://mapq.st/UqQxvk

You'll see people by the side of the road selling them (they'll have signs). If you have the time, I'd pick up a map on a day before the one you plan to drive around Beverly Hills/Bel Air, etc. This way, you can plan your route.

You can also look at this online map:

http://mapcelebrityhomes.com/index.html

but it does cover a MUCH BIGGER AREA including Malibu and the San Fernando Valley.

We got a map off Sunset Blvd near the home where Michael Jackson died.

I drove, had 2 back seat drivers, and a good navigator who can read a map.

The roads around Beverly Hills and all that area where the stars homes are, are very winding and you wonder if you're heading north, south, east or west.

But we saw the ones we wanted to see .. well, yes the gates and hedges .. but there are some beautiful homes to see without the hedges and gates.

Another nice home to visit is the Witches House .. it's on the corner of Walden Drive and Carmelitia Avenue. You will have fun, and I hope you have someone who can read a map.

You have to do it once ...

Within about a mile of the Crowne Plaza are some of the top restaurants in So Cal, Spago, CUT, The Belvedere and many, many more. Just walking up Beverly Blvd you'll run into a lot of good spots.

The restaurants closest to your hotel are good, but not the top ones, here is a map that shows where the closest restaurants.

Sue means Beverly Drive, not Beverly Bl (which also has some great restaurants but is some distance away). The walk from the hotel to, say, Cut (at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel) would be about .9 miles (a good 20 minute walk). You might want to drive
