hotel help for Los Angeles

We are starting our vacation in San Diego in June, a couple of days there, a couple in Anaheim and a couple in Los Angeles. I need advice for a good, safe hotel in Los Angeles, $100-150 range. We want to do as many things as we can while we are there, Chinese theater, farmers market, Peterson Car Musuem, etc. We will be flying out of LAX , any suggestions?

I suggested this in another thread, but check out The Farmers Market Hotel, across the street from The Farmers Market and Grove (close to Peterson Museum, too).

Also check out Orchid Suites which is highly rated here at TA, and walking distance to Graumans Chinese and the Walk of Fame.

How far is Grauman's Chinese and walk of fame from the Farmers Daughter? Walking distance or do you need a car? Where do you park if you have to drive? Never been there, sorry if question sounds dumb.

they are not walking distance. probably a 10-15 minute drive, and an easy one at that. there is parking all around the hollywood area for a fee.

The distance is 3-1/2 miles. There are two buses: the #217 and #717 either of which will take you from the corner of Fairfax Avenue & 3rd Street (1 block from the Farmers Daughter) to the corner of Highland Av & Hollywood Bl (1/2 block from the Chinese Theatre). (Be sure to take the bus in the northerly direction from Fairfax & 3rd). The ride takes 15 minutes. The fare is $1.25 each way or, if you plan on taking more than these 2 trips in one day, buy a $3 DAY PASS from the bus driver (exact change required -- coins or bills) for unlimited rides on the buses and metrorail trains for the day.

To go to the Peterson Auto Museum, you can take the same buses in the opposite direction from the corner of Fairfax & 3rd Street. It's a short ride since the museum is only 4-1/2 blocks south of the Farmers Daughter on Fairfax Ave.

For bus and metrorail info, go to mta.net.

If you chooses to drive, you can park on the street near the Chinese Theatre (space-permitting) or in one of the parking lots. The Hollywood & Highland Shopping complex has a parking garage that charges only $2 for 4 hours of parking (but you must validate your parking ticket with one of the stores in the shopping center). Enter the Hollywood & Highland parking garage from Highland Av. just north of Hollywood Bl. Look for the GIANT $2 PARKING sign.
