3 nights in LA, recommendations please

Hi Folks,

Me and a friend are heading into LA on 15 Feb for 3 nights and need to know some hotels to stay at and what clubs we can hit.

Plan is to stay the first night in a hotel near LAX and go to a club.

Second night we want to head over to beverly hills, stay over there and again go out clubbing/drinking.

third night we want to be somewhere near LAX again for the flight home the following day.

Were both into dance/r&b and like to have a damn good drink, any recommendations on where to stay and where to go would be excellent.

LAX isn't really near any clubs that you'll want to go to, unless you are thinking strip clubs. You'll want to be in West Hollywood for clubs there if you really want to go clubbing. I'm not up on the clubs of the minute (or second), but perhaps the locals or a quick read through the gossip columns can give you ideas of where to go.

There are a thousand hotels near LAX, so if you have a favourite 'brand', then start there, chances are they will have one. For West Hollywood/BevHills, it really depends on how much you want to spend. There's everything from inexpensive dive places to places like Chateau Marmont where if you sit in the lobby long enough you'll see somebody famous. But it all depends on what you want to pay. A good bet to is start with something like Expedia and narrow down hotels in your price range and then come back and ask about them. You'll receive a much better response that way. : )

The three major club areas are;

West Hollywood/Sunset Strip

Santa Monica

There's nothing near the airport. I would waste time staying there. The drive (if you're going to hire a car) is about 30 minutes to each of these places. If you're using public transit, then a taxi will get you there as well for about $25-$35.

Otherwise, there are shuttle buses (redvans.com or supershuttle.com) that can get you there for about $15 per person but will take longer than taxis since there are other passengers to be picked up and dropped off.

Check out the "10 FAQs about LA" at the top of the L.A. Forum topic list for hints on where to stay, where the clubs are and a host of other useful info. Here's a shortcut:

Staying near LAX is like staying near Gatwick. It's far from everything and there's nothing there. So find a hotel in an area you want to be in (I imagine it's Hollywood) and stay there for your 3 nights. Check out the Standard or something on the Sunset Strip and you'll be in the center of the action all the time (it's got a hopping hotel bar)

By the way, there's no clubbing or drinking in Beverly Hills, not really. There's one or two fun bars, maybe one club - but there's all about a mile away, in West Hollywood. Here's a guide to nightlife:
