LA and where else?

Was going to do a week in LA and a few days in LV in June but looking at average temperatures in LV might be a bit too hot for us pale and freckley people! Any other places worth going to (in a hire car) a few hours from LA for about 4 days? Heard Santa Barbara is very pretty?

What do you enjoy doing? Santa Barbara is very pretty and nice, as are many other coastal towns. Likewise there is some real beauty at Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks. If we know more of your interest, we can direct you in the right direction.

Happy planning

Fly to San Francisco for a few days.

I agree with Yogachik on San Francisco as the weather is much cooler there, it is very different from Los Angeles and Las Vegas, is full of cool neighborhoods with lots of character, and there is a lot to see and do there. San Francisco is about 6 to 8 hours (depending on if you take the fast I-5 route or the scenic coastal route) by car from Los Angeles or a little less than an hour by plane (not counting airport arrival and departure, which can be time consuming).

Also, Santa Barbara while very nice and somewhat cooler than Los Angeles, can still get hot. However, it is a very attractive city. 4 days there might be a little more than you need though.

If you do drive to San Francisco on the coastal route (Hwy 101 and Hwy 1), you probably will want to spend the night in San Luis Obispo County (a very scenic and relaxing area) about halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco.
