Pacific coast highway from San Francisco to San diego

I am traveling with my kids from San Francisco to San Diego - we are planning on doing it in 4 days - leaving San Francisco on a Monday & want to be in San Diego by Thursday night - where should we stop & stay each night?

Please read similar posts on the California Forum as you will find plenty of info there. Ideal stops would be Monterey, Cambria, Santa Barbara and I guess Laguna beach. But that would mean skipping LA . You sure you want to do that.

How old are your kids? I think that will help in providing answers on which towns to stop in and for how long.

I agree with the 3rd reply, your only choice being whether to go for Monterey and have a stop in Carmel, or stay in Carmel and have a stop in Monterey. The aquarium there is unmissable. You should also visit Hearst Castle when you're in Cambria. That's another highlight.

I would move Wednesday to Long Beach for access to the Aquarium of the Pacific and the popular Downtwon area.

Do understand that "Pacific Coast Highway" does not run continuously through from San Francisco to San Diego. And in some places, like Long Beach, it does not run along the ocean. At Oceanside you have to get on the Freeway to get around Camp Pendleton Marine base. Take a close look at a large map with a lot of detail.
