Both are beautiful resorts but you can't beat the location of the Montage. However, I am assuming that you are not expecting the guests to pay for their own rooms? Both are extremely expensive.
I still have bad memories of a family wedding in another state where my cousin
and his wife (groom's parents) directed everyone to stay at the most expensive hotel in town (at their own cost). When everyone found out what it was going to cost we all chose other places to stay. The groom's mother was very angry but I don't think she had a right to be.Edited: 1:07 am, July 22, 2011
"Year after year Montage is voted as one of the top hotels in the WORLD."
Please site your references, socalbeachbum. I'd like to read them.
According to Conde Nast, which is a reader's choice poll, the Montage is the third rated hotel in Orange County with a 91.3 rating, behind Pelican Hill at 96.0, the Ritz Carlton at 93.2 and just slightly ahead of the St Regis at 90.4.
Travel + Leisure flops them a bit, but I am not sure of T+L's methodology, Montage (92.15), Pelican Hill (90.49), Ritz-Carlton, (89.85), St. Regis (86.80).
AAA has all four as 5 Diamond properties, with the Ritz Carlton getting the nod 24 straight years, plus the Island Resort is there too.
The Montage is an amazing place to stay and the setting is spectacular there! We are staying there again in December, can't wait! :)
Thank you everyone for your insightful feedback!
