Want to make the best out of 2.5 days in Healdsburg-help!

My boyfriend and I will be in Healdsburg in March. Will be driving in from S. Tahoe and arriving in Healdsburg on a Wednesday - probably noonish. Reserved the Healdsburg Inn on the Plaza for 3 nites leaving Sat. 7 a.m. for morning flite out from Oakland.

I would love some suggestions for iteneriary for the 3 nites/2.5 days. Activites we are considering:

1) Visiting a couple of Napa Wineries

2) Visiting a couple of Sonoma Wineries

3) Touring on the Napa Wine Train

4) Dining or lunching at Madrona Manor restaurant, Cyrus, Manznita, & Zin

5) Try our luck at River Rock Casino

6) See the Armstrong Redwoods - maybe have a picnic there or along the way

7) Enjoy the coastal scenery at Jenner and/or Bodega

8) Somehow find time to relax and leisurely enjoy the Healdsburg Plaza's shops, galleries, tasting rooms, etc.

I know this is a long wish list for such a short time. Therefore I really need some assistance in determining what we realistically can do in our timeframe.

And is it true there are no alcoholic beverages served at the River Rock Casino? What's up with that? And can you bring your own in?

Thanks - looking forward to your advice!

You have way too much planned. Healdsburg is not in the Napa Valley, but in Sonoma County. You have to travel over some hills to get there. With 2.5 days, if you want Napa you should stay in that valley.

Skip the wine train. First of all you don't have time. Secondly, it doesn't stop at wineries, it just toots up the valley, feeds you and gives you a glass or two of wine.

Armstrong Grove is a good idea. Will take half a day, but you could combine this with Jenner and Bodega Bay. Take a picnic. Forestvillian can probably suggest some wineries to visit on this trip. This would be an enjoyable day.

One day out of your 2.5 gone.

Unless you are set on it, I would forget the River Rock Casino. You now have 1.5 days to visit wineries and relax and "leisurely enjoy the Healdsburg Plaza and shops".

Suggest you confine yourself to the Sonoma County wineries...around Healdsburg, Alexander Valley, Russian River, etc. and do Napa on another trip.

But have a great time and come back later for the rest.

I think you got some good advice from Puter. Armstrong is lovely and you could also see the coast if you go out that way. As far as the River Rock goes, it seems weird that they wouldn't serve alcohol, but I don't know. It's pretty close though, so if you really want to see it..

Don't miss Willi's for lunch or dinner! It is my all time favorite place! Cena Luna is also a great place for dinner. Cousteaux Bakery is a nice place to grab breakfast or lunch as well and I think you can get box lunches for picnics. Stroll into Powell's Sweet Shoppe for a look too!

Have fun!

Willi's Seafood is what I meant, sorry. I tend to do that a lot. :)

The owners of Willi's (both) are opening a steak house in Santa Rosa. It may even be open by now. It is called Stark's Steakhouse and if it is anything like both Willi's and Monty's it is going to be GREAT!

Does the same person own Willi's Seafood and Willi's wine bar?

Yes, they are the Starks and they own both Willi's and another great place called Monty's in Santa Rosa and they are just now opening a place called Starks Steakhouse in Santa Rosa. I haven't been to Willi's Wine Bar, but I frequently go to Monty's and Willi's Seafood and they are two of my all time favorite restaurants.

1. Napa is an hour away, correct to stay over there if you want to tour Napa Valley. You can access Napa Valley via Alexander Valley/Knights Valley and through Calistoga a lovely 45-1 hour drive which gets you to the Northern head of Napa Valley. Or Santa Rosa suburb of Larkfield over the hill at Mark West Springs Road and drops in to Calistoga missing the more gorgeous Alexander V./Knights V. route.

2. Sonoma County wineries or Sonoma Valley wineries? Sonoma Valley Corridor is it's own appellation it starts in Santa Rosa off of Hwy 12 check the map at www.sonoma.com it will take you east of Santa Rosa and has some lovely wineries but this is a full day to see the Historic town of Sonoma and the Sonoma Wine Corridor.

3. Would not be my personal preference and it is in Napa Valley

4. All good restaurants all in Hburg and all your able to walk to but Madrona from Hburg Inn. (good place to stay)

5.

6.Armstrong woods can be accessed through Sweetwater springs road which is off of Westside road at the Hopkiln winery junction the most gorgeous route. when you finally get to the bottom turn right and armstrong will be in front of you.

7.Good thing to do. Drive out Dry Creek Road pass Lake Sonoma - take Skaggs Springs road to the coast.

8. Would recommend touring Alex/Dry Creek/West Dry Creek and seeing town on at least one day. Palette ARt Cafe/HHburg lounge/jimtown store for breakfast or dry creek store for breakfast

Bike rental?

9. Check the maps on these routes I am 99% sure the road names are right but I just drive them anymore and don't read names.

Starks is open

Monti's

Willis seafood

Willis wine bar

same owner

Hi there! Cyrus and Madrona Manor are only open for dinner, we tried to get into Madrona next month and it won't work with our schedule, but it looks lovely from their website.

We dined at Cyrus last March and will most likely end up here again for dinner in the area. We also have Willi's Seafood on our list for lunch in Healdsburg.

Dry Creek Kitchen at the Hotel Healdsburg is another nice choice for a meal in the area, they are open for both lunch and dinner. Have fun! :)
