Route 101 SF to Healdsburg

Can anyone tell me about the roads/terrain - I am trying to decide what kind of car to rent! My husband wants to rent a "fun" car but someone mentioned small, winding roads???

Small winding roads are a good possibility especially if you head to wineries but I would think you would want a "fun" car...say a convertible. Warm weather and beautiful scenery. A couple of not-too-serious (or long) dirt roads shouldn't be a problem. I've done worse in my parents old mini van (shhhh).

Some of our backroads are winding and narrow (no shoulders), but you can really drive any vehicle you wish safely, and it's not going to be a prob. (I wouldn't recommend a huge SUV unless you feel need it). Don't worry--go ahead and rent a fun vehicle; drive cautiously and have a great time!

Well, from San Francisco to Healdsburg itself you will be on freeway all the way. Then, as others have suggested you may be on back roads..yes small and maybe winding, but not dangerous and not for very long distances. Get a convertible....a Mazda Miata....just for me?
