halloween

have made our decision that our road trip this October will have us in Half moon bay for the 31st. we are now looking for accommodation. i want to see the kids walking around the streets trick or treating, i want to see some houses decorated and maybe even visit a pumpkin farm, i know this all sounds childish but for me from Australia this would be fantastic as i have only witnessed this once before in Salinas about 15 years ago and at that stage was not into Halloween so didn't really take much notice. where would be a good place to stay? we will be heading to SF the next day.

Not been in Half Moon Bay on Oct 31. Due know week or so prior to that they have a huge Pumpkin Patch that is really popular just east of town on Hwy 92. We got caught in the traffic for hours. Once we got past the spot the traffic cleared out. They have a maze and all types of activities for everyone. October is a great time of year to be in this area. Our first visit was 3 or 4 yrs ago and we had great sunsets and walks on the beach. You might check their local newspaper: http://www.hmbreview.com/

for events and activities. We found a great place thru airbnb and have amazing hosts. It is our favorite place to stay. Walking distance of many eating places and to the Mavericks area. The Fitzgerald Marine Reserve is about half mile from there as well. If you have a private plane, there is an airport nearby as well.

Hopefully someone who lives there will answer with specific info. But generally, trick or treating is done by children in their own neighborhood, or sometimes in a residential neighborhood known to give out good goodies. (This is becoming less popular due to concern about tainted treats, with supervised community events taking the place of trick or treating.) These are both a little hard for a visitor to access. Sometimes, downtown merchants will host some type of costume/trick or treat event in the late afternoon or early evening.

HMB, being a small town, is more likely than most to have trick or treaters out on Halloween. AND given that is has a huge pumpkin festival the week before and produces a lot of pumpkins, I think the chances of finding what you are looking for there are high. I'd go downtown and wander the streets in the blocks surrounding Main St.
