Planning suggestions

My husband and I are planning to stay 2 nights in Guerneville. Interested in visiting a few wineries. We are fans of reds, particularly pinot noir. We would also like to see the coast and armstrong park. Possibly canoe on the river. Would like suggestions on an itinerary for squeezing this all in. Open to any restaurant suggestions as well.

You are in a good position to canoe the river, visit Armstrong Grove and the Coast. The river and Armstrong Grove are right there, the coast is 12 miles away, and here is an interactive winery map of the area.

It looks to me as if you are in good shape, and won't need to "squeeze" much.

Enjoy.

For restaurants,

Korbel Deli is nice and close by to Guerneville and Armstrong Redwoods for lunch

For lunch along the coast, we usually opt for The Tides at the Wharf (more for the view of the sea animals swimming in the bay) than for the food itself. There are other restaurants in this area.

For dinner at night The Applewood is quite good and in Guerneville so if you want some wine with dinner you will be close by.

In terms of wineries, go east to Westside Road - its close to Guerneville

Many of the wineries there specialize in Pinot Noir.

In squeezing it in, I'd do like Armstrong Redwoods in the morning, lunch at Korbel, then wineries, then dinner back in Guerneville.

Day two do a canoe trip and then drive out to the coast. Check water levels when you get there to know what to expect this year due to our drought conditions. Water was fine for canoe trip this past week-end when we were in the area.

have a good time.

We rented a house in Guerneville for a week last summer. Our two favorite places to eat were Boon Eat and Drink on Main St. :http://eatatboon.com/ (they make an appetizer that is incredible--flash-fried brussel sprouts) and Backyard in Forestville: http://backyardforestville.com/menu.html

Ohhhh, PGd .. flash fried Brussel Sprouts!! Gotta get those, gotta get those, gotta those (to paraphrase Mike Krukow). They sound yummy and on my list.

I love Guerneville. It's a wonderful eclectic mix of wine snob and hippy. Not sure about the canoeing this time of year. The Russian River can be low in summer and this summer especially.

Dahlia, the sprouts are very garlicky and delicious. We had them one night, and a few nights later we stayed at the house to barbecue, but we ordered the sprouts to go because we just had to have them again!
