Stone Brewery in Escondido

I am trying to plan a trip to visit the brewery for my boyfriends birthday... I am traveling from Long Beach and am trying to decide if it is better to drive or take the Amtrak (i was told there is a sprinter station in oceanside) Also, I have no idea if we should just do the brewery in a day.. or if I'll need to plan something else to do while we are in the area.. I have no idea what is close or entertaining... Any suggestions would help!!!! Thanks!

I'd drive. The only other San Diego attraction right there is the Safari Park.

One other idea would be to go to the brewery and then drive up I-15 and stay overnight at one of the casinos like Pala. They have good restaurants and a lovely pool in addition to the gaming.

Others prefer Pechanga a little further north. Pechanga has a nice comedy club but no real pool .

I'd definitely drive, too. Dealing with the trains can be a hassle and the closest station is probably around 2 miles from Stone.

I assume you'll be touring Stone, so keep in mind that the tours at Stone fill up FAST, especially on weekends,so plan to get there much earlier than when you want to tour. You can call them for recommendations. But, if you get there early, you can always enjoy a beer and eat lunch there while you are waiting for your tour time.

Riffsmom suggestion of visiting the casinos is a great idea. You can get a room there and on weekends they generally have entertainment. If you are really into beer, though, there are lots of breweries in the area, so you could tour several of them in a day or a weekend. The closest ones to Stone are Lost Abbey and Green Flash, but there are plenty more, too. There are also brewery tours. They can be a little pricey, but they drive you to the different breweries and you get to tour and sample beers without having to drive.

If you have more questions about the local breweries or Escondido, please feel free to contact me! What to do in the area totally depends on your interests.

A car is certainly convenient in Northern San Diego County, transit service is spotty at best. Both Stone and Lost Abbey are about a mile walk (20 minutes) from stations on the Sprinter light rail line, so it would be possible to reach them by transit if you wanted to.

From Long Beach, the best transit connection is by Greyhound to Oceanside, where you can catch the Sprinter.

I just read about the brewery tours that provide the bus. I think drinking and driving is a concern for me so maybe stay at one of the hotels that they will pick you up and and spend the day tasting different brews in the area.
