The Mission at San Juan Capistrano is worth a stop to see.I think every kid that grew up in Orange County took a field trip there. Very historic place. Its the place the swallows return to every year.Just down the street is a restaurant called El Adobe, which is a historic old structure. They have a room downstairs to eat in called the Carcel. Its basically the old jail that has been turned into a wine cellar.

Not far away is Dana Point Harbor. If you want a whale watching tour, you can't beat Capt Daves Dolphin safari.

You see dolphins year round. The boat has two underwater viewing pods to see them up close. Right now it is getting into grey whale migration season. If you look at that website, they give a running total of all the creatures they have spotted.Yes, the restaurant is good, in addition to being historic.

A few months ago, saw a lot of dolphins standing at the end of the San Clemente Pier, so great easy viewing you can do for free, and do it at your timing, as long or short as you want, as compared to taking a boat cruise.
