Is Coronado fun for kids?

Hi All,

I've never been to Coronado Island before and this June 2008 we will be staying a week there. I have 3 children ages 13, 5 and 4. Any ideas for keeping them entertained there? We have been all over San diego and wanted to try a new area we've never been.

Thanks,

Carissa

Coronado has a great beach and is flat which is good for biking. After that I'd just look to use it as a jumping off point for other SanDiego activities. After all it is only 15min from downtown.

We go to Coronado every year and we barely ever even leave the island! Yes, theres a ton of stuff for kids to do. Mine are 10 & 16 and we've been going since the 16 yro was 2! We usually stay at Loews because it is so kid friendly (pets, too!). You can rent a speed boat, hang out at the pool, go to the beach, kayaking, sailboat & surfing lessons for the kids, etc. We never run out of things to do in Coronado, but we do get over to Sea World or the zoo at least once. Be careful of sting rays in June. Just jump up and down on the wet sand a few times and supposedly it scares them away. Thats what the locals tell me.

Have fun!

Ferry to SD and back. There're playgrounds in several of the parks. There's a skate park at Tidelands Park (at the base of the bridge). Bike path on the Strand to Imperial Beach (tho at that age they won't get much further than the amphib base), but there's a playground and bay beach there. Very nice Municipal pool, if your hotel lacks one. You can check out the Coronado Rec Department's webpage for more ideas.

We spend 3 days at the Hotel Del and saw lots of kids with their families enjoying the beach and area. Coronado is a very family-friendly, upscale area of San Diego. There is Holland's bike shop where you can rent bikes and ride around the area, this would be a fun family activity! :)

Also check out the Coronado Library. They have lots of programs going on in the summer. There are morning story hours for the little ones - highly recommended. The library itself is newly renovated and beautiful.

Across the street from the Library is Spreckles Park. Sunday AM twice a month is an Art show and sale. Every Sunday evening in the summer is the Concert in the Park which is really fun - bring a picnic. The children's play area is pretty nice there too.

The Coronado City Rec Department is on the Strand by the Shores. Check the city website for hours or the pool and other activities. Depending on your situation, you might sign up for some of the Summer programs. The City website will have all the information. Have fun!

anyone have any recommendations for a hotel on Coronado for those with young kids? We're looking at the Marriot, Best Western, and the Beach Resort Condos. We're expecting to split time between the beach and the area attractions (Sea World, Lego Land, Seaport Village area, Balboa Park/Zoo, etc).

Thanks!
