Carmel Memorial Day Lunch Stop

Hi, we are wanting to visit Carmel, have lunch and a quick walk around the town, unfortunately we have to visit on Memorial Day, so we are expecting it to be very busy.

Are there public car parks or other places to park?

I presume we'll find cafes with parking?

Cheers for any advice.

Most parking in Carmel is right on the street. Spaces are limited in time in most areas, but around the fringes of the business district and the neighboring residential areas there are places with no time limits.

There are two public parking lots (what you call "car parks"). One is at the north end of Sunset Center with the entrance on 7th Avenue at the corner of Mission Street. You can park as long as you want for a fee.

The other parking lot, called Vista Lobos (because it has a great view of Point Lobos) is at the Northeast corner of town (at 3rd and Junipero). There's no charge, but it's fairly remote. It's also at the top of a hill so you have to walk 4 blocks uphill from Ocean Avenue to get back to your car.

California Market in the Highland's area is a nice place for lunch. Parking is valet there. If you want to eat right in downtown Carmel, Casanova, Demetra Cafe, Le Bicyclette and Grasing's are a few of our favorites.

Enjoy your time in Carmel! :).

Hi Corry8. Welcome to Carmel!

To avoid the parking challenge, go to 8th or 9th street. There's no time limit and you can usually find a place to park in this residential area (which is where I live). It's only a couple of blocks to Ocean Avenue, which is the main street in the village.

If you'd like some lunch suggestions or some suggestions for your walk, please reply.
