Check out Adventures by the Sea in Cannery Row. We rented kayaks with them and they were wonderful to deal with! :)

There are two kayak rental outfits in and around Monterey. Adventures By The Sea has multiple locations, including Cannery Row and Lovers Point. http://adventuresbythesea.com/

Monterey Bay Kayaks provides service on the beach immediately east of Monterey's Municipal Wharf. http://www.montereybaykayaks.com/

Both are reputable companies, and your choice will be based more on which area you wish to explore rather than on the company.

It is usually easier (less choppy) to leave from Cannery Row or Lover's Point than Monterey wharf or beach. If you love otters (like I do) try kayaking Elkhorn Slough a few miles north of Monterey. It's a sheltered waterway that's like an otter sanctuary.

Have Fun!

Elkhorn Slough is wonderful. Not open bay, and the opportunities for viewing sea life are fantastic. You can rent kayaks and do it yourself or go on a "safari" on a small boat.
