carmel to hearst castle

Mini you were very helpful but I have another question. We are going to leave Napa at 8 am and hopefully get to carmel at 12. do the 17 mile drive, a bit of monterey and carmel and sleep in carmel area. Then get up early and go to hearst castle and hopefully be able to take a 12:20 and 2:20 tour. Then we were going to drive up the coast and stop in king city? I think it is called for the night, so that we don't have to drive all the way up to san fran that night. And then leave for San Fran. at 8 am the next morning? Does this make sense?

You will be going rather quickly through the Big Sur Region on your way from Carmel to Hearst. You could make by noon if you leave Carmel at say, 8AM, but it would be much better to linger through this stretch. You could return this way after Hearst, but you will not be able to get to King City if you do that. King City is not along the coast, it is well inland in the Salinas Valley, and there is no way to cross over to there once you start up the coast from Hearst Castle (except the infamous Nacimiento-Fergusson Road, not recommended). You would do better to stay somewhere in Big Sur, or return to Carmel after Hearst, if not to stay in San Simeon itself.
