We have an upcoming trip to Costa Rica in early January. We are planning to hike in Rincon de La Vieja National Park, but cannot decide if we would like to do the blue lake and la cangreja falls hike or the summit hike. We are in pretty good hiking shape and have done some fairly strenuous hikes before, but we are a little apprehensive about the summit hike due to people recommending hiring hiking guides to the top. Has anyone hiked to the summit on their own? Was the experience as dangerous as I have been reading? Has anyone taken a guide? If so, who did you use and how much was it? Has anyone done both the summit and the blue lake hike? If so, which would you recommend if we had to choose one? Thank you all so much! Have a great day!
