Drive time- LA to Cambria

Hi, can anyone give me an idea as what traffic/drive time is like? We will be leaving either Downtown LA or Hollywood (depending on our hire car deal). It will be in mid May, Saturday morning we'll be collecting the rental car and heading towards Hwy 1. Will every man and his dog be headed in our direction? :)

Hi

Maybe read this tread: tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g33045-i106-k41691…

It depends on what route you want to take.

This is a fairly easy drive, Isaiah. The quickest route to Cambria would be Highway 101 north all the way to San Luis Obispo where you connect with Highway 1 toward the coast (Morro Bay/Hearst Castle exit). The sections of Highway 1 south of Morro Bay are not all that great. The drive through Malibu, for instance, just takes you past one long row of attached homes that pretty much block the view. That part moves away from the coast at Point Magu and connects with Highway 101 in Oxnard. The two highways become the same road at that point.

You will see an exit for Highway 1 to Lompoc just north of Gaviota, but this is an inland drive, not coastal and would slow you down considerably (There is no coastal access because there is 50 miles of air force base along that stretch of coast).

The entire drive takes approx. 4-5 hours depending on place of departure and whether you encounter traffic on your way out of town. Mid May shouldn't be too bad. End of May would be worse due to it being a holiday weekend.
