Groceries in Tucker's Town

We've bene to Bermuda a few times, but have always stayed centrally or in the west. This fall, I think we'll rent a house in Tucker's Town. Coldwell banker is offering two different properties in the Trots Bay / MOC area. Does anyone know where nearby grocery stores are located?

The nearest supermarket will be the HARRINGTON HUNDRED Supermarket (with beer, wine & liquor), at 99 SOUTH ROAD in Smith's Parish...right at the intersection with HARRINGTON HUNDREDS ROAD. This will be approx. 2 miles west (to the right as you face the ocean) along the South Road from the Trott's Bay/Trott's Pond area...approx 1 mi west of John Smith Bay beeach (mid-way between Trott's Bay/Trott's Pond and the supermarket) . If your primary mode of transport during your visit will be via public transportation--buses & ferries)...there is frequent public bus service through the Trott's Bay/Trott's Pond neighborhood during the dayvia the #1--Hamilton-Grotto Bay-Saint George's bus route (#1 bus route stops running at 6:15 PM Mon-thru-Fri / 5:45 PM Sat / 5:00 PM Sun & Hol) ...and along the South Road, with bus stops right at the HARRINGTON HUNDREDS Supermarket.

If you will be riding rental motorscooters (you can usually fit 2-3 full grocercy bags in the rear carry basket on most rental scooters), the trip should take a very pleasant five(5) minutes, with some lovely south shore views along the way.

If you were planning to walk to the supermarket, it certainly could be a bit of a hike...especially for the return, carrying bags of groceries. But via a #1 bus or a rental motorscooter, it's a very pleasant few minutes ride.

Odds are, you will make a major run to the supermarket upon or shortly after arrival to stock the larder. After this, it will be more a matter of quick stops for odds 'n ends. Since the HARRINGTON HUNDRED market is located right on the South Road, on the #1-Hamilton-Grotto Bay-Saint George's public bus route...and that there are regular bus stops right out in front of the market...it's simply a question of '..hop-off/hop-on..' the #1 bus as you go.

Trott's Bay/Trott's Pond neighborhood is a really nice section of Bermuda....and not the sort neighborhood where local residents or vacationing visitors (no doubt one of the reasons why you might select it for a vacation rental) want large commercial buildings, with an acre of parallel-lined asphalt surrounding 'em. A few minutes by bus, scooter or taxi is a small enough price to pay for that.

Agreed about the location. We will need a big grocery stop at the outset, and have two infants, so often have to run out for milk and sundries during the week. I miss bermudagrocer.com It took care of that first large order and made life much easier when you got off a long plane trip with a crying, hungry baby. The last thing you want to do at that moment is go grocery shopping.
