Can anyone tell me if plakias has enough supermarkerts/places to eat/things to do with family to support self catering holiday in mid-end october? What is average meal prices when eating out? Water suitable for snorkelling? How are roads to drive? What are petrol prices like if hiring a car? Anywhere else on crete to be recommended at this time of year?

water is good for diving and snorkeling and there are always about 4 supermarkets open as also 10 tavernas, you can also choose Agia Galini, but the beaches from PLakias are the best

Definitely recommend Plakias - good choice of accommodation and plenty of decent restaurants - considerably better and cheaper than bigger resorts in my experience. Stunning mountain scenery and a choice of wonderful beaches in and around Plakias.

Not overly commercialised but you should find enough to keep yourself occupied.

You might get an odd showery day in October but lots of warm sunny days too.
