Tour company - or go it alone??

Hi, Im planning to travel to Bwindi in late August and want to know if you really need to organise the trip through a tour guide company?

Ive contacted a few and, they are all proposing budget/midscale accomm which Ive researched the prices however, the total package costs they are suggesting are rediculously high.

I know it is possible to travel daily from Campala to area 17km short of Bwindi and, it is possible to organise a transfer from there.

Any recommendations from anyone out there one who is good if Tour companies are recommended or, how to do it if you go it alone???

Not sure I understand your problem. Daily trips to Bwindi means they operate daily and not that you can commute daily.

You can turn up in Buhoma village and if you are prepared to wait around for a permit you will do this quite cheaply. BUT you may find all permits taken up for August and be relying on a cancellation.

As to packages bear in mind the permit costs $500 and a car driver $150 per day to which you must add around $50 - $300 per day for lodgings depending on how up the scale you want. so for a five day trip with one permit you are looking at $1500 minimum for Basic lodgings.
