Fire on Mount Kenya

Just picked this up from Facebook and indeed news on YouTube claims that the Forestry Commission is now trying to fight it,

"From Susie Weeks of Mt Kenya Wildlife Trust - Only KWS and a few community groups are trying to fight the fires on Mount Kenya which this time have spread into the forest on the Naro Moru side of the mountain. As they rage and KWS fight them with no budget to do so there is no action from anyone higher up. Mount Kenya Trust Trustees have appealed to the Office of the President, and the Provincial Commissioner and the press. This is one of our most important water towers and it cannot be KWS's responsibility alone to fight something so big and out of control. There's noting in the newspapers. It is an outrage!!!"

Let's hope it's not too damaging.

If the US and Australia, with all the resources that they posses are unable to bring their wildfires under control, how is the Kenyan Government supposed to manage this?? KWS is a government department is it not?

I remenber reading that the British Army helped out, during a similar event in 2007.

There is hope of it going off after the military, the police and the community were mobilized to help. There are also to choppers helping with water and felling of the firefighter up the rugged terrain.

in the news is that it may be contained by today
