How much time to allocate to stay in Petra

After having recently been to Egypt and loved it, we are now planning to travel around Jordan. Looking at tours, they seem to allocate only 2 days in Petra, some 3 nights, 2 days, ....Is two days enough or should we stay 3 or 4 days.....or is 2 days enough to see and experience?

Again it depends upon how archaeologically minded

one is - how deep do people want to go - how long do they want to sit and ponder and stare and ramble

around etc.

For most people a good 6 hour visit up and down is

enough (although many manage it on less) - just to say Ive been to PETRA !!

Also depends upon how active you are - how nimble on your feet etc. How hot the weather is - how much time do you actually have are you retired and free from time and budget constraints - all are

contributing factors.

3 nights and 2 full days is generally adequate in

which you can do the down places one day - around 6-7 hours with lunch in the basin at the bottom.

The high places the next day and squeeze in a Petra by night if you desire. That way you will have a

fairly good and reasonably paced and enjoyable tour.

Remember if one is exhausted, hot, tired etc the

enjoyment isnt 100%.

Apart from the main site - there is little to see in the town of Wadi Musa itself. One evening's walk will suffice. Many do side trips from Petra to Little Petra and Wadi Rum - but not sure whats in your program.

if your tour inside jordan 4 days , u can cover at least 8% from the historic locations in all jordan.

if you start early visiting petra like 7 am , it means u can stay there like 10 hours & you cover most of the locations , still u have :

jerash , ajloun , umqais

desert castles or karak castle , city tour in amman

mount nebo , madaba , dead sea , pabtism site
