I am going to spend 4 or 5 days in Sosua, and maybe 2 nights in Santiago, and am a single guy looking for things to do, and a decent place to stay, and there are easy to work with? Thanks.

Hola Matt!

How's the Spanish, mi amigo? If yours is limited, you may find navigating Santiago somewhat of a challenge. You have a couple of weeks yet to go so, it'd be to your advantage to at least get some basic understandings under your belt.

Check out www.dr1.com and google 'hotels in Santiago' for options there.

You haven't indicated a budget and at this late date you've likely already chosen a hotel in Sosua ... but for what it's worth ... If I were you, and I sought a hotel that's friendly to my guests, I'd choose from RV and Brent's extensive list the following in this order:

1. Terra Linda http://www.terralindaresort.com/

2. Casa Cayena http://www.hotelcasacayena.com/

2. Sea Breeze http://www.hotelseabreezesosua.com/resto.html

Once settled, do your appetite the favor of dining at Orchidee's Restaurant. Sadly they were closed when I was last there in July ... You, thankfully, won't have that problem! Casa Valeria's charming restaurant is just a stone's throw away and it's now a 'must do' for me. Go to both and you'll more than agree...

Anyrate, enjoy all the planning stages and of course the trip!

Oh yeah, and don't forget yer dancing shoes! D'Latin's and Classico's and Rumba's and El Flow will all be ready for 'em!

Buen viaje!

Thanks for all your input on this site. My Spanish is passable, but not as effective there, as in South America, as they use more slang. I booked at Perla De Sosua. I have done some pre-work on cupid, and spoken with some nice people, and always have them on call if needed. I would need to pay for the bus from Santiago to meet them. I may look at some real estate while there, as I am looking for a reasonable apartment around 60k or so. Prices still seem to be falling though, and I am not sure why. Thanks for all of your input on the D.R.....

I"ve stayed here a couple times

Be sure to get an inside room. They have some very cheap outside rooms but they are not very nice. It is about a 5-10 minute walk to the beach going through the town.
