converting money

Greetings All -

Our upcoming trip is very near. Staying for 3 1/2 weeks. Have a few questions - should we use credit cards, US $ or pesos? If pesos, where should we convert our money - in US or Cabarete? Also, if any golfers out there, have you looked into shipping clubs via UPS/FedEx. Think I saw on this forum that greens fees can be negotiated? Is that correct - any advice/information is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all.

As to money you are better off with USD (convert here) or use an ATM machine for pesos. Many places do not accept credit cards and if they do they usually charge a significant fee or give you a poor exchange rate on the bill.

The best place to change your money will be on the west end of town accross from Ocean Dream complex at the Caribe tour office. Currently they are exchanging at 40.10 pesos to the dollar.

Ditto Bob on the money thing.

Never heard of greens fees being negotiable. The cost of shipping your clubs internationally would be huge. Pay the extra bag fee.

Or you can rent clubs at any of the courses here.

As with the advice already given. Wally's is an exchange place in the centre of Cabarete. They post the exchange rates on line:

wallycabarete.com/html/wally_cambio_sp.php

They are actually showing slightly better than the exchange Bob mentioned (RD$40.15) which is unusual, generally the one Bob mentioned is better but frequently not worth the walk if you are already in Cabarete itself unless you are changing a lot. If you are staying around Ocean Dream end of town, you are already close to Caribe Tour.

Merry Christmas Bob and everyone else. Hopefully be there in January and catch you for a cold one!

Merry Xmas to you as well.

Actually drove past Caribe tours today and the posted rate there was also now 40.15 and I got 40.25 at my bank with an account.
