Hi,

The only diving operations I am aware of are on Pulau Weh - 1 hr fast ferry trip from Banda Aceh.

Check out this dive website for all details of ferry times etc

http://www.lumbalumba.com

Other dive operation is http://www.rubiahdivers.com

If you google Pulau Weh you will find a great map of the island from Sumatra Eco Tourism

Hi Again,

Just found out last night there is a new accomodation place on Pulau Weh about 2kms from Iboih and 4/5 kms from Gapang and it is called Stone Park.

Here is the Face Book page

https:/…322412617871262

with details.

Have also been told there is a new dive shop opened 5 minutes away.

Will get back to you within the next 24 hrs all the details.

Pamela.

Thanks Walter for your comments. No, we are not firm in our plans yet for diving in Indonesia. If you have other recommendations, please let me know other suggestions. We only have one week so we want to go somewhere that is somewhat easily accessible by a flight, but otherwise, we have no constraints.

At Cape Bira I have had one of the best dives ever. The log book says: Napoleonfish (humphead wrasse), whitetips, school of huge bumphead parrotfish, manta rays, school of big tuna ...

The village is called Bira Beach. Tell the dive masters to take you to the actual cape - this is where the big stuff is. Visability is excellent. I dove with a German guy called Elvis. Don't know if he is still there.

Bira Beach is easily accessible from Makassar, and there are plenty of flights to Makassar.

Enjoy your diving trip!

Hello Walter,

Thanks again for all the great information. I did some research on the Bira area and it sounds wonderful. Just one concern: we have only about 15 or so dives under our belts. I read that the current is quite strong in that area. Would this be suitable for divers at our level? - still quite inexperienced, in my opinion. We will be there in July if that makes a difference as far as the currents go.

Thanks!

Susan

Hi Susan,

The current gets strong at the end of the Cape Bira dive. You have to go up in time and get out before the current takes you out into the blue. But if the dive guide stays close to you and, if necessary, takes you by the hand, it should be doable without taking to great a risk.

Walter
