Migration question

We will be arriving in Tanzania on Feb 19th and going to Tarangire for 2 days, through Manyara, Ngorongoro and the Southern and Central Serengeti - staying at Dunia and Olakira.

Can anyone guess - based on where the migration is right now where it will be when we are there? Have the wildebeasts and zebras starting calving?

Some recently said they was a few babies. They have been in Ndutu area of Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA).

I would recommend you hedge your bets and check with your Operator that you have NCA fees covered for the time you are in Southern Serengeti. There are recent reports of fines being laid to those people who disregard the border between Serengeti NP and Ngoronogor Conservation Area. You must pay the fees to both parks for all days that you are in both areas.

Olakira is located at Ndutu (NCA); Dunia is located in Southern Serengeti, so you're covered regardless. Likewise, the wildies inside the Ngorongoro Crater also calf at about the same time, though maybe earlier.

The calving usually starts mid-Feb, but can change by a few days or weeks from year-to-year, but they will drop their young somewhere during your visit.

As QM mentions, just be sure your park fees are properly paid for whether in the Ndutu or Serengeti areas.
