availability of tusker

HI

I have booked three nights on tanna island in February 2014. I would like to know if you can buy Tusker at a local shop or if you have to pay resort prices. Also do you know what area the blue cave is? Where was the most cost effective place to stay? (about 5000 vatu a night for a single would be good)

Well hello nono...

I suggest you stay at Tanna Evergreen Resort and when you book you'll be able to discuss touring around. There are other low cost budget bungalows which are extremely basic. A look at Friendly bungalows would also be a good idea.

Read this info to get you started if you want to stay at village bungalows...http://www.positiveearth.org/bungalows/introduction.htm

You'll be able to buy Tusker to have on hand, but even at your destination you'll most likely find it to be a fair price.

Hope this helps,

Jen

Port resolution yaght club, near the volcano, I suggest staying there. Cold tusker as they have a fridge, and, better than staying on the other side as you don't have the big bumpy trip bac from volcano. Lovely village and people

Either way...you have a long bumpy but scenic trip to the volcano side of the island from the airport where you arrive.

If you stay on the volcano side (about 1hr or more from the airport depending on weather) there are great local bungalows with local food (taro, laplap, fish, chicken etc) which may or may not have beer. At best they will have generator electricity for some of the day to keep it cold. However we are now coming into the rainy season. If the weather is bad you may not be able to get back to the airport if there are flooded or boggy roads.

If you stay on the airport side you will have the same trip to the volcano (and they wont attempt to cross the rivers or ash plains if there is bad weather) but come back to your accommodation on the same night. Resorts on this side of the island will have beer, electricity and internet access etc. Volcano tours typically leave mid arvo and get back at 8pm for dinner.
