Air Vanuatu international flights to Santo

This is on the Air Vanuatu website today - "Following operational requirements, until further notice International services to Santo will operate via Port Vila, with Port Vila-Santo-Port Vila sectors operated by our domestic fleet.

Customers will fly to and from Port Vila, then be accommodated on domestic flights, which remain unaffected."

Hope this doesn't affect anyone too badly. It could be a while before things get back to normal.

Cheers, Barbara

We are also booked to fly in august. direct Bris-Santo

The rep from Van airways Brisbane, quoted today (18/6/12) that by august they should have completed the maintainance of the runway and direct flights will resume.

Fingers crossed

Would be so good if they resume the direct flights. It really is the best way to zip over from Brisbane.

My fingers are still crossed!

Air Vanuatu’s Chief Executive Officer Joseph Laloyer has announced the airline’s

Boeing 737 international flight to Santo will resume this Sunday, 24 June.

The resumption follows the preliminary report of an Obstacles Limitation Surface Survey

conducted over the last few days by an Aviation Specialist Surveyor, the data from which

will allow Air Vanuatu to review its operational limitations for the Boeing 737-800

Mr. Laloyer said the survey was conducted in response to issues raised in PASO’s Risk

Assessment Report into Pekoa airport, the contents of which caused Air Vanuatu to

suspend B737 flights to the airport.

There is still work to be done at Pekoa to meet standards required for the operation of

B737-800 services, however the airline expects those standards to be met and maintained

with the arrival of the new fire truck, currently on order.

“Once the final report is produced, Air Vanuatu, Airports Vanuatu Ltd and CAAV will

use it to address any of the existing obstacles to return Pekoa to its maximum operational

capability which will be further supported by an extra fire truck purchased by AVL,” he

“We are grateful for the assistance of CAAV and AVL in working as quickly as possible

to restore standards at Pekoa airport which will allow us to resume international

operations this weekend.”

“We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers during the suspension of flights to

Santo, however Air Vanuatu has and will always operate under the banner of Safety First.

We appreciate the assistance of the Santo community and look forward to continued

growth of the route.”
