Angel Falls or Orinoco Tours?

Has anyone recently taken a tour to Angel Falls or the Orinico Delta from MI?

We're coming down on January 2 for two weeks and are curious, but cautious.

Also thinking based on some internet posts, that the good camera and laptop should be left behind.

We're not unseasoned travellers (Nigeria, Uzbekistan, parts of Asia), but we're hearing conflicting reports of Venezuela and would love to hear some more thoughts. (And yes, we've been scouring this forum).

Hi demayo.

Any hotel that doesn't have 24 - hour (armed) security in Venezuela should really review their policy.

Obviously there is a great difference when you are talking about large resorts; about big impersonal hotels with maybe a couple of hundred rooms, and little family - run businesses like mine, where all of the staff are either related to me or/and have been here for years. I'm proud to say that none of my customers have ever lost so much as a penny from their rooms, but would be unable to offer the same guarantees if I were to be in charge of one of the big places with lots of staff.

. As a technophile I run around Margarita with my iPhone, MacBook and Sony HD video camera (amongst other toys and trinkets) and have thus far not had any problems. But then I speak the lingo, understand the culture, know the island and can read the signs of potentially ugly situations before they happen. In any case, if you really don't want to lose it, leave it at home and just chill out and enjoy the island. It has a lot to offer, and hopefully will improve now that we have a Socialist, pro-Chavez governor - and a local boy, too - in charge, to replace the self-serving bandit who has just been voted out.

I just wanted to add a quick note of thanks. We went to Margarita Island and it was lovely. (If we ever come back, we're probably coming to that Canadian owned B&B).

Magic Tours was very helpful. Ciro went over and above in providing us with insights on the islands. Another guide, Jose, was amazing too. I will be posting more over the next month, but just wanted to say what a big help most of you were!

A B&B is a bed & breakfast or a posada in Spanish.
