Where can a family go to pan for gold or look for gemstones?

We'll be in the Sedona area for a week the third week of July. Is there a tour or a place that someone knows of where we can pan for gold or look for gemstones?

No, The geology is sedimentary and therefore not condusive to producing gems and such. This is why this area is so pristine. There have been no mines dug here over the years accept by the tourist industry. We do have large deposits of copper that Phelps Dodge gave up on many years ago in Jerome and Clark Dale.

Arizona is full of precious metal and gem mining but not in Sedona and not by river.

Thanks for your input. I'm looking forward to seeing some of Sedona's pristine land.

Gold panning over in Prescott.

do a daytrip there, and drive through Jerome on the way.

If you have your own gear, try Lynx Lake.
