Revised itinierary for November

A few weeks ago I posted a nine day itinerary for the area which gave me some good feed back. Seems I was being too aggressive in wanting to see so much in a small time frame. So after reading the forum for a while I have a new itinerary. Open to suggestions.

Arrive Friday Nov. 9 later in the day. Pick up rental and drive somewhere in Happy Valley.

Leave early Saturday morning. Drive to GCNP. Enjoy sunset and sunrise in morning. I have reservations at Kachina Lodge

Sunday head to East entrance and head to Springdale. We have all day to get there. Have 3 nights at Desert Pearl Inn

Monday tour the Zion National park.

Tuesday leave early to Bryce. Back to Springdale before dark.

Wednesday head to Page. Not booked yet, but do Antelope Canyon early afternoon. Check out Horse shoe bend. Spend the night.

Thursday leave early for Sedona. Have 2 nights at the Best Western Plus Arrayo Roble.

Friday do a Pink Jeep tour and check out local sites. We are not big hikers but love nature.

Saturday doesn't matter when we head to Phoenix. Spend the night close to airport.

Sunday morning head home.

So I know it is still ;aggressive but do you think doable?

Thanks for your feed back.

Bryce isn’t a good day trip from Springdale. Book a room at Bryce (Ruby’s) instead for that night. In Nov days are short. You don’t want to be driving back to Springdale in darkness. And it will be an easier drive to Page the next day.

This looks really nice to me...a few comments for minor changes and ideas for Phoenix/Scottsdale

Sunday...to get to Springdale...use the 89A to Kanab...not the 89. You will pass over the Navajo Bridge with its rare condors, past Vermillion Cliffs, the huge roadside boulders, and finally through some forest before arriving in Kanab. www.highestbridges.com/wiki/index.php…

Think of having coffee and a treat at The Kanab Creel Bakery. Its new and very yummy. https://kanabcreekbakery.com

.....

Tuesday...I agree with RedRox try real hard to find a room in/near Bryce Canyon. We like the Best Western Plus

Bryce Canyon Grand. The Bryce Canyon Inn in Tropic is 7 miles west of Bryce but not that far compared to driving back to Springdale. https://www.brycecanyoninn.com It would be a 180 mile round-trip from and back to Springdale...and over 5.5 hours on the road. Even staying in Panguich would be a lot closer.

.....

Wednesday...get your lodging reserved...and the Antelope Canyon tour. The Upper Canyon is easier and still gorgeous. The Lower Canyon has a lot of stairs and narrow passages to contend with. Horseshoe Bend can be a long slog in sugar sand if you are not avid hikers. Its 1.3 miles round trip. Find out when you are in Page when the sun will hit the bend and take it from the shadows. We recently stayed at the new Hampton Inn and Suites there and enjoyed dinner at El Tapatio.

.......

Thursday...On the way to Sedona, take the Wupatki Ruins, Sunset Crater Loop as a scenic drive...nearby ruins are close and very easy walks. Your first day/night is mostly used up by the drive down from Page. You may have time for a late afternoon Scenic highlights jeep tour.

Not being avid hikers you do not have to have as much time in Sedona. Make good use of your full day there...do not miss the Dry Creek/Boynton Canyon Scenic Byway. Its a gorgeous drive to see the Red Rocks out there. It will be a right hand turn after you pass through West Sedona. Visit Red Rock Crossing, Airport Mesa and walk around Uptown. The drive alone without the loop is 165 miles and about 4 hours...add 1.5 hours for short basic stops and the loop drive.

On the way back to Phoenix you will be using the #179 and will have time to stop at Tlaquepaque, Chapel of the Holy Cross and the Bell Rock Pathway area near the Village of Oak Creek. We prefer to stay in the Scottsdale area of Phoenix. Its a beautiful and safe area of Phoenix Metro.

You could choose one of the following places to go if you arrive at Scottsdale fairly early:

1...The Cosanti Forge, a very cool place visitors which tend to really love. They make the best long-lasting souvenir bronze garden bells. They also have more delicate terra cotta clay chimes that are reasonably priced and very unique. You can go for the daily molten bronze pour. Its easy to be enchanted with the area but its not a child-like attraction at all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWIDgaAgGDE

2...Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece, http://franklloydwright.org/taliesin-west/

3...Old Town Scottsdale, Plus The new and very neat Western Spirit Museum of the American West and old Movie history, http://scottsdalemuseumwest.org https:/... Allot about 1.5 - 2 hours for that.

4...Desert Botanic Gardens: https://www.dbg.org

Thanks Red Rox and MaryEllen thanks for all that detailed info. I will look into staying in Bryce. When I checked google it looked like it was longer to go from Bryce to Page than Springdale to Page. We do stay at Hampton inns so sounds good for Page.

Thanks for affirming 89a. I had been debating that one.

I thought of Scottsdale. We would have a 10 am flight. Would it be too far? We know we will have to be up early. Thinking traffic shouldn't be too bad on a Sunday morning. Do you have a place to recommend ?

Thanks again.

Distance from Bryce to Page via Kanab might be a few more miles, but it will take less time than from Springdale.
