Is Wichenburg Prescott Route to Sedona Worth it?

I am flying into Phoenix airport - April 11 and don't know if getting to Sedona by traveling (by car) to Wichenburg then Prescott to get to Sedona?

Is this route 60 to route 89 that scienic - worth while for the extra hour or two it's going to take?

If so - what interesting stops along the way to break it up?

The route is scenic, but not as scenic as Sedona itself. And it will add way more than an hour or two to your day... think like 5-6 hours.

If you were embarking on a 2 week driving tour of northern AZ, I would say do it, but for your short trip to Sedona and LV, skip it this time.

Jerome is the interesting stop to break it up. If you have a few hours to kill, Prescott is a really a nice town and Jerome is very interesting, but that part of 89 is not really scenic enough to warrant such a huge detour in and amongst itself.

If you're looking for a side trip on the road up, you can always check out the Cottonwood or Camp Verde area. There are several state parks, but none of it really even compares to Sedona.

I agree with the others. You'd have to deal with Phoenix traffic just to get to US 60 (depending where you pick it up), then all of the western suburbs, etc. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but after flying from New York, you probably don't want to deal with too much city driving if you can help it.

As the others have said, hop on I-17 and go north, it is a scenic drive once you get past the Anthem/New River area. Stop and pick up some sandwiches around the Bell Rd area, eat at the Sunset Point rest stop, then decide if you want to go through Jerome, Cottonwood, or go directly to Sedona.
