Which area to stay in Phoenix?

My husband and I are going to be in Phoenix for 2 nights at the end of February and wanted advice on which area to stay in.

We are both young (26) and want to stay in an area with bars and restaurants. We are renting a car so we do not necessarily have to walk but it would be nice to be able to. We are also going to an NBA game while we are there so if there is a good neighborhood by the stadium that would be great. Is downtown Phoenix a good area?

We have heard that Scottsdale is a fun area for nightlife as well so are there any areas there that may be closer to bars and restaurants?

Thanks in advance!!

You are the right age and are looking for the kind of things that would fit right in on Mill Ave., in Tempe. Plenty of college age and slightly above bars, restaurants and all around night life. You will find just about everything there except maybe boot scootin'. From there you can take the light rail right to the Arena for the game. Easy on and off. Perfect for what you want.
