granparents meeting our grandkids in Phoenix

I know how to plan a trip for my husband and I, but this is a first for me. Meeting our daughter and her 6 kids in Phoenix. Kids range in age from 2 to 16.... Help, where do we stay and what can we do with them for a couple days. I have never been to Phoenix so I don't know where to start.

Hey, ask me anything about New Orleans, Italy or Jamaica and I can help. Usually looking for bars and brew pubs, good food and music. This has my head spinning...

Thank you for all the great ideas. We are staying in the Scottsdale area, found a great place with a kitchen, should save a ton of $$ on food by having some meals at home.. More money to spend on fun stuff. We are also thinking about "western detinations" which was rated #1 on tripadvisor. Just not sure how that would work for the little ones. Thanks again, looking forward to our trip.

A day trip to Goldfield Ghost town will be just right for the kids and adults. About an hour depending on where in Scottsdale you are staying. Then continue on the road to Tortilla Flat. Unbelievable scenery on the way there and Tortilla flat is a funky, fun place to have lunch in a western setting.

With the wide range of ages, you might want to break the kids up to do some of the suggested things early in the morning with just the little ones like the zoo while teenagers sleep in, then leave the younger ones for a nap in the afternoon while you go to MIM, which everyone raves about, with the older kids. I have my doubts about everyone for a day trip to Tortilla Flats. Pioneer History Museum is closer and kids aren't that interested in scenery. Let the older kids use the internet to plan out some of the excursions themselves. The more you get them involved in planning the more enjoyable the trip will be for them.
