Spending 9 days in the Phoenix area starting next week...

So what are the cant miss restaurants for lunch, dinner, different price levels?

We may spend a few nights at a resort. Best one?

Worth driving to Sedona for a day?

Might take in a Diamondbacks game. Are tickets plentiful and reasonable outside the stadium?

We have no agenda and are wide open for suggestions.

We are staying in Florence AZ about an hour south of Phoenix and plan to come to town a few days while we are in town.

We are celebrating our 30 year anniversary while one the trip so any romantic suggestions welcome!

Thanks in advance!

The most romantic place in all of Arizona has to be Hannegan's Meadow up in the White Mountains. Get one of the cabins and walk hand in hand through the forest, or sit in the rocking chairs of the front porch of the lodge and look at the mama elk with their babies across the road in the meadow. Spend the evening in front of the big fireplace and have some of the home made wildberry pie. The perfect place to get away from everybody and everything.

The Whites are a great place to get away from everything.

Sedona is about as romantic as anyplace, but on a different level. Much more to see and do. Well worth a few days along with the White Mtns. Most folks who can afford it, get out of PHX in the summer time. The forecast for this coming weekend calls for highs of 116 Fri-Sun. I would spend as little time there as possible. Choose Flagstaff, Page or the GCNP if you can get lodging.

The Diamondbacks will be out of town until July 5. During the week, tickets should be available at normal prices at Chase Field.

Florence generally gets as hot as Phoenix during the summer. You might also consider a run down to Tucson to the south about an hour and a half. Sedona is about a 3-hour drive from Florence, and the White Mountains about the same. Flagstaff, Page and the Grand Canyon are even longer drives.

Check the restaurant guide for Phoenix and Scottsdale here on TripAdvisor. It is usually an excellent guide and shows price ranges. There are also some in Tempe and Mesa, check them out, too.

Closer to Florence, you might check out the Boyce Thompson Arboretum near Superior and the Lost Dutchman State Park in Apache Junction for a grand view of the Superstitions. You also get some nice views of the Superstitions coming to Phoenix.

Along the highway, Florence can be somewhat depressing with all the prisons, but it does have a charming downtown, and the neighboring residential areas are interesting. A major renovation project was underway on the Pinal County Courthouse when I was by there last year.

You might like to try a pink jeep tour while in Sedona. If you have very deep pockets Binkley's in beautiful cave creek might give you a meal that you will remember for a long time as it takes about three hours to dine there. Other interesting restaurants that I've been to include FNB a farm to table kind of place. Noca it's Italian inspired but creative. Pizzaria Bianco...because it's suppose to be the best pizza in the country and it might be a few hour wait to get in. Sassi is very beautiful with amazing views and Palo Verde at the boulders is also very beautiful. I recently dined at the Blue Hound and based on what I tried I highly recommend for a somewhat casual dinner out. There is a million other places that are great too. Lots of great little ethnic dive places too! You need to visit the MIM (musical instrument museum) you won't be sorry.

You won't be far from Queen Creek Olive Mill. Have a delightful lunch. There food is awesome and there is a small tour of how olive oil is made. Very interesting. Take a ride on the Dolly Steamboat at Canyon Lake.

A daytrip from Florence to GC and back will be 10 hours in the car and very limited time at the rim. If you want to see GC stay overnight if you can find a place www.grandcanyonlodges.com

Yes, get out of town and go north...it's mighty hot in these parts this time of year! You can get some great summer deals on resorts here though, so look at The Westin Kierland, Fairmont Princess, Marriott Camelback Inn or Desert Ridge, AZ Biltmore, The Phonecian, Four Seasons or The Boulders. They all have great surroundings and services.
